1st Annual Skagit Farm Circle
November 13-14, 2024
In partnership with the Skagit County Fairgrounds and Whatcom Family Farmers (WFF), Western Washington Agriculture Association (WWAA) is excited to announce the launch of a new agriculture education program in Skagit County.
In a similar fashion to WFF’s ever-growing and popular Whatcom Farm Circle event, a Skagit Farm Circle event for 3rd grade students will be held for the first time this fall at the Skagit County Fairgrounds.
The WFF Agriculture Education Coordinator, Ellie Steensma Corbin has teamed up with Policy Director of WWAA, Kara Rowe and Assistant Manager of the Skagit County Fairgrounds, Frances Negranza to host this event. Partners from many local and state-wide groups will also contribute to create a six-station event for 3rd graders to explore all things agriculture.
The stations will include dairy farming, entomology, potatoes, water and wildlife conservation, and general Washington agriculture explorations. Students will spend 15 minutes at each station and experience interactive activities all about Skagit County and state-wide agriculture.
At the end of the field trip, students will also take home a swag bag of activities, school supplies, and local food products to enjoy after the event.
All schools in the Skagit County area are welcome to apply and should reach out to our coordinators for more information.
This event will be free of charge and sponsorships from local businesses to help defer the costs are welcomed and appreciated. By donating, opportunities for further away schools to receive transportation grants become more possible, as well as covering other costs for making the event a success.
In addition, as a nearly all volunteer-run event, anyone who would like to share two hours of time to support students learning about agriculture can also reach out!
